Austin
SAN ANTONIO (AP) - The pro wrestling star known as "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, facing a misdemeanor charge that he assaulted his wife earlier this year, has dropped divorce proceedings.
The San Antonio resident had filed for divorce from Debra Gale Williams in July in an attempt to end their two-year marriage.
A Bexar County court last week dismissed the divorce case, stating that the wrestler, whose real name is Steve Williams, no longer wished to pursue it.
The 37-year-old wrestler is charged with assault causing bodily injury from a June 15 domestic disturbance at the couple's Northwest Side home.
His wife, also a wrestling personality, accused Austin of hitting her several times after an argument. No trial date has been set in the assault case.

The Beauty Of Live Wrestling
Perhaps some of the funniest post-Raw banter we have seen in some time.
After the final 8 man tag match, Undertaker told Booker T he couldn't leave until giving the fans a spinerooni. Booker relented, then told Taker he needed to see a Taker-rooni. Taker said that would be gimmick infringement and said no one should have to be put through the pain of watching that. Then Rock came back out and said he wanted to see the Taker-rooni. Then Triple H came back out, told Rock he was out there for some serious business, then went to town taunting Taker to get him to do a Taker-rooni. Triple H said for 12 years he's seen dead man walking -- tonight he wanted to see dead man spinning. Then he accused Taker of not having the balls to do it. "For 12 years you've had balls. Tonight -- no balls."
Then, Vince McMahon comes out! He said he would even do a spinerooni -- which Hunter asked "Would that be a Mac-erooni?" So Vince did his spin (very poorly), which Triple H immediately followed by calling Vince the whitest man on earth. Golddust even followed up with a very impressive spinnerooni, which Vince called the Fag-erooni. So then, Triple H gave it a go -- with a very sad spin -- and Taker then gave him a chokeslam and hightailed it out of the arena. Rock then did a Rock-erooni (also not that impressive) then gave Triple H a spinebuster, followed by a People's Elbow. As Rock left the arena, Triple H said "I hate you Rock". Then he looked to the crowd and said "And I hate you". This whole thing lasted about 25 minutes after RAW was off the air, but no one could leave... waiting to see if Taker would really do it. |
Random Notes
JR put over RAW doing better this week, but says they still didn't receive the reviews they had all hoped for. They are still balancing the in-ring work and the backstage vignetes, trying to have enough of each to please everyone watching. Doesn't know what to expect for RAW this Monday from Iowa State, but hopes for a good crowd.
Made mention that SmackDown! was solid this week. For about the fifth week in a row he made sure to throw in the fact that it's taped so they have the editing advantage as opposed to a live RAW show. Mentioned the controversy over the Billy & Chuck marriage angle.
JR downed rumors of WWE getting serious about negotiations with Scott Steiner. Why is this unexpected? Anyways, he mentioned new talents and things of that nature are part of his department and there are no plans to go after Scott Steiner as of now.
Gave everyone an update on Bill Goldberg. Made sure to point out WWE is still interested, but the ball is basically in the court of Goldberg and all of his represenatives. Says they are planning their future without Goldberg as they do not know of his interest in working for their company.
Rock isn't expected back until the beginning of next year due to movie commitments. Downed rumors of a third movie project being set in stone and said WrestleMania next year, March 30, 2003, will be heavily involved leading into the annual wrestling classic.
Gave his two cents on the Steve Austin situation. Despite internet rumors there are no conversations between Austin WWE, the usual. Made sure to inform everyone to not listen to anyone who says "sources say" or "backstage talk was" in reports. Made mention that Austin is more concerned with straightening out his domestic situation in Texas with wife Debra, before even thinking about getting back into WWE.
Put over the competition between the RAW and SmackDown! rosters. Quite the rant actually. Mentioned competition is good for business, but they do not want to do anything that would have a negative impact on one of the two rosters as they are all want what's best for WWE.
